NEXTDOOR
Have you ever signed up for an event
but ended up not attending?
Navigating a completely new and unfamiliar neighbourhood can be a daunting experience, especially with attending events and finding new friends. When residents eagerly register for these gatherings, it signifies a collective desire for communal engagement. However it is not uncommon to observe a perplexing phenomenon: a significant number of registered individuals fail to attend these events. The research documentation seeks to delve into the intricacies of why people, despite their initial enthusiasm, do not attend events in a new neighborhood. By unraveling the underlying motivations and barriers we aim to shed light on the factors that shape community participation and explore how neighborhood dynamics, personal circumstances and event planning intersect to influence attendance rates.

Secondary Reserach
I kicked off the process by delving into extensive secondary research, drawing insights from industry examples like Meetup, Facebook and Eventbrite. This early stage of research laid the foundation for a well-structured project plan that outlined every step of the process.
As I continued, the project took shape, and I started brainstorming potential brand names that would resonate with the concept. Once the brand name, “NextDoor - Your Neighborhood Network” was chosen, I proceeded with constructing a comprehensive research plan that guided me through the primary research phase. The research phase involved gathering data, insights, and feedback from various sources, allowing me to create a robust documentation of my findings. With this wealth of information at hand, the final stage involved synthesizing all the research data into a coherent and actionable strategy.
Research Questions
Upon extensively reviewing online articles and watching relevant videos, allowing me to immerse myself in the experiences, challenges, and opportunities faced by those going through the process of moving to a new neighbourhood. This comprehensive approach provided valuable context and helped me come up with the research questions
-
What factors deter people from attending events they initially express interest in?/What are the main reasons behind no shows, and how can they be mitigated?
-
How can event reminder systems be optimized to increase attendance rates?
-
What incentives are most effective in motivating event attendance?
Affinity Mapping
User flow
I crafted the user flow, mapping out the most common and potential paths users would take once they entered the app.
Sketching
I visually planned and created visual sketches of the app screens outlining the interface for my application. I began by brainstorming and ideation of the layout of the app screens. I took into consideration the main elements and features that needed to be included, such as event listings, login, signup, user profile, location, ect. I used the traditional pen and paper to draw my imagination out. A few screens are as follows:
Low Fidelity Wireframe
With the help of my sketches, I created the blueprint of the app, providing a visual structure without any distraction of colors, or detailed graphics. I focused on laying the content out which included content placement arrangement of key elements on each screen, etc.

My Experience :)
It involved decision making but very mindfully. Sometimes, it makes me wonder and agree with the fact every small UI factor is relevant and important and never to be ignored.
